Emily Learns Some Stuff From a Book! Empty
PostSubject: Emily Learns Some Stuff From a Book!   Emily Learns Some Stuff From a Book! EmptySat Feb 01, 2014 5:44 pm

Emily left the Hyperbolic Time Chamber (she was leaving from her second visit with Cyril, Ryuzaki, Artik, Stanial, and Auron) looking quite baffled. She had no idea what happened in there, and she didn’t really have any desire to see anything like it again. Emily wandered around the Lookout for awhile, noticing that it was still the same time of day as when they had entered. Emily hadn’t actually believed that the Hyperbolic Time Chamber ran on another sort time, she had thought that such technology was beyond Earth. But this of course wasn’t the first time Emily had been wrong. A sudden thought struck her and Emily spun around wildly, scanning the area. Emily had suddenly thought of Mr. Popo and really hoped he wasn’t anywhere near. Now that she thought about it, it was probably best that she left the Lookout for safer waters, so to speak. Emily ran to the edge of the Lookout and swan dived off it. Wind pummeled her face and she fell unrestrained to the ground. It was a ridiculously long fall, and so it gave Emily plenty of time to think about things. When they had been running from Mr. Popo in the jungle, she had felt Cyril almost double in power in an attempt to run. She wondered how he had done that, and wondered if she too could do something like this. I mean, it didn’t really seem like something that was beyond her abilities. If anything it seemed like something that any old fighter could do. Emily made a mental note to check this technique out once she hit the ground. Sorry, that sounded like she might die, what she mean to say was “when she landed.” Yes. Much better Much less violent. Emily was still a long way up and plenty of time to spare. Emily’s thoughts wandered to Clone Emily. She wondered what was up with her. Was she still alive? Was she somehow an independent part of the Hyperbolic Time Chamber? Who knew, really? Emily thought about the questions she had acquired from her first trip to the Time Chamber. She wondered what the hell they were about. Emily had skimmed through them after leaving and it looked a bit like some sort of writer’s character draft thing. The more she thought about it the more interested she became. If it was some kind of writer’s character draft thing that would be kind of cool. She thought that maybe filling it out would provide some sort of valuable insight into herself. That’d be good. She almost wanted to start on them now, but thought that maybe taking out papers whilst hurtling towards the ground at terminal velocity wasn’t the best idea. Emily, absorbed in her thoughts, almost didn’t notice she was almost to the ground. But she did and managed to pull up just in time before she smashed into the ground and died. Good for her!
Emily landed lightly on the ground and observed her surroundings. She was in a thin, deciduous forest. Bare trees surrounded her everywhere and dead leaves littered the ground. Emily tugged at her sleeves in an attempt to get a bit warmer, but no avail. The freezing air pierced her light clothes. Emily flew above the forest and scanned the horizon in search of some civilization where she could warm up, and perhaps learn about the technique Cyril had used. Not seeing anything, Emily picked a direction and began flying. Soon enough she found a city on the horizon and flew towards it with due haste. Emily touched the ground and walked quickly into the first building she came across, hugging herself to keep warm. Emily sighed with relief as the warm air of the building cloaked her. She looked around and found that she had entered a very nice library. Sweet. Now maybe she could look up that technique of Cyril’s. Did libraries have books for that kind of stuff? Emily was pretty sure they did, and if they didn’t she could always use a library computer or something. The library was a large affair. The book shelves all reached the ceiling and the high shelves required a ladder to get to. Stairs branched off to the left and right and led to another floor which was similar to this one. At the front of the room was a desk with a computer and a librarian manning it. The man looked up from his work. “Ah, hello. Are you new here?” he asked. Emily nodded and approached the desk. “Well if you want to check out a book you’ll need a library card. I can get the required forms if you want?”
“Yes please.” Emily said politely. The librarian ducked under his desk and in a moment popped back up with a form. “Just sign your name here.” Emily took the paper and signed the paper. She handed it back and man handed her a card with a smile, “Was there anything specific you were looking for?”
“Oh, well I was looking for a book on fighting techniques, something comprehensive.” Emily told him. The man frowned, “You’re not one of those people who get all enthusiastic and try out the moves while their still in the library and then cause lots of damage, are you?”
“No?”
The man seemed satisfied by this answer, “Alright! I’ll just check our records for ya then.” The man typed away at his computer. “Okay, says here there’s a ‘A Comprehensive Guide to Techniques’ book on the second floor. Look around in the third book case on your right once you enter and you should find it! It’s circa 570 AD so it may not be quite as complete as you might like though.” Emily gave her thanks and walked up the stairs to her right. Emily found the book right where the librarian had said it would be and then brought it back down to him to check out. “Have a nice day!” Emily waved lightly to the librarian and left the building. She then promptly remembered it was very cold out and ran into a nearby café. Emily took a seat, ordered a hot chocolate and cracked open the large book. It was a hefty book and she figured she wouldn’t find it by simply skimming. Emily read carefully over the table of contents and tried to look for something that sounded like the technique Cyril had used to almost double his power. After reading the first two pages she got a bit impatient and flipped through to see how long the table of contents was exactly. It was over 10 pages. Emily frowned and went back to skimming them. After several looong minutes, Emily seemed to have found what she was looking for. “Power Up!” said the table of contents. “Page 125” it also said. Emily flipped to that page with rising hope.
“Learn to boost your power level by x1.5!” The heading said enthusiastically. The rest of page read as follows:
“This technique has been the go-to transformation for any warrior worth their salt for over 500 years! Open the flood gates of your true power and feel your mental and physical strength almost double in effectiveness!”
Emily kept on reading and saw another interesting technique, “Telekinesis!” the headline shouted. “Do lots of stupid stuff with your mind! Here’s how:”
And so Emily kept on reading through the afternoon until she thought she had a good grasp on both techniques.

Word Count: 1,250 for Power Up and Telekinesis (the first one)
